Karen Cruce

I have a lifelong journey with clay which has taken me from admirer and collector to a potter.  I strive for my work to include tactile, textural and functional beauty.  During the last 15 years, my work’s focus was on clearly functional work. Perfecting forms and techniques was my goal.  Now my work, even though still mostly functional, is bringing the clay and me back to our origins, the earth.  My work expresses the geologic forces occurring in nature.  Stratigraphy and Sedimentation are the focus on this series.  This journey has also influenced my work in photography and glass.  Moving away from clay, I wanted to reveal how other mediums reflect these same earth’s forces. The combined strength of form, texture and pattern creates energy and spirit in each piece.
