Carmen Martin

I am a clay artist and have been working with this medium for a very long time. It all started about 47 years ago when I was 13 years old. I am passionate about art in general but spend most of my time working with clay.  I look at it as a God-given gift  – not that I consider myself to have mastered it but that God gave me this desire to attempt to express all these creations swirling around in my head.
The subject matter that I have been drawn to lately includes architecture, trees, animals and people. Adding a bit of fantasy and whimsy is appealing to me also.
As to technique, I don’t give it much thought.  I pinch, smash, prop, roll;  whatever it takes to get as close as I can to what I want to see. During the process, which can be rather lengthy, I get drawn into a sort of story line about each piece. The whole process fascinates me.
